AAIDA was excited to host rheumatologist, Delfin Santos, MD, FACR, of Rochester Hills, MI for our 2nd educational webinar during 2020.

Dr. Santos will discuss the following:

Dr. Del Santos, has been in private practice for 28 years and currently serves as Director of AARA Rochester Rheumatology Center in Rochester Hills, MI. Dr. Santos earned his medical degree from UCMM in Santiago, Dominican Republic and completed his Internal Medicine Residency Program at West Suburban Hospital Medical Center in Oak Park, IL. Dr. Santos completed his Fellowship in Rheumatology at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, IL and served as Chief of the Department of Medicine and as Vice Chief of Staff at Ascension Hospital Medical Center in Rochester Hills MI.  Dr. Santos has also been on the Advisory Board for the American Behcet’s Disease Association for the last 20 years and is repeatedly named TOP DOC in rheumatology in HOUR Magazine Detroit.

Immunity, Skin Cancer, and Sun Protection

AAIDA proudly hosted board-certified dermatologist, Meredith Dasher, MD, FAAD of Charlotte N.C for this patient-focused educational webinar on May 12, 2020.

In her presentation, Dr. Dasher discusses the following:

* The basic role of immune system in cancer prevention and development.
* Association between primary and acquired immune deficiency with increased risk of cancer including skin cancer.
* How to identify the 3 most common types of skin cancer.
* Sun Protection and limiting overall exposure
* Supplements

Dr. Dasher received her undergraduate degree from UNC Chapel Hill, her medical degree from Tufts University and her dermatology training in combined Tufts and Boston University residency program. Dr. Dasher has been in private dermatology practice in Charlotte since 2005 and currently treats dermatology patients at Tryon Medical Partners, an independent and multispecialty group. Dr. Dasher’s special interest in medicine include the prevention, early detection and treatment of skin cancer.

Immune Deficiency & It’s Association with Autoimmunity & Malignancy

AAIDA was thrilled to have Teresa Tarrant, MD, FAAAAI of Duke University present our very first educational webinar on October 29th, 2019. Dr. Teresa Tarrant is a board certified Rheumatologist and Allergist/Immunologist who received her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth, her Medical Degree from the University of Florida and her Internal Medicine and subspecialty training at Duke University.

Dr. Tarrant is currently Vice Chief of Translational Research for Duke Rheumatology.  Her research areas of interest are in new technologies for drug delivery in inflammatory arthritis, Paget’s disease of bone, Sjogren’s syndrome, and immunodeficiency disorders.  Her talk will be on Common Variable Immunodeficiency – autoimmune and malignancy risks.
